Abstract

Background: Ragging is a serious issue in educational institutions that negatively affects the physical and psychological well-being of students. The present study aimed to assess the effectiveness of a planned teaching programme on knowledge regarding ragging and anti-ragging measures among adolescents in selected schools and junior colleges.

Methods: A quantitative research approach with a one-group pre-test post-test design was adopted. The study was conducted among 120 students from 10th, 11th, and 12th standards of a selected school. A structured questionnaire was used to assess the knowledge of participants before and after the intervention.

Results: The findings revealed that in the pre-test, 50% of participants had poor knowledge, which significantly reduced to 19.16% in the post-test. The proportion of participants with good knowledge increased from 21.66% to 47.50% after the teaching programme. Statistical analysis indicated no significant association between pre-test knowledge and demographic variables such as age, education, and gender.

Conclusion: The study concluded that the planned teaching programme was effective in improving knowledge regarding ragging and anti-ragging measures among adolescents. Hence, similar educational interventions should be implemented to promote awareness and prevent ragging in educational institutions.
